Technology giant Samsung has unveiled its new solid-state drive (SSD) products two months before CES 2026. The company highlighted an innovative product specifically designed for the automotive sector, with a model that will appeal to portable gaming device users.

Targeting the automotive sector, the new Detachable AutoSSD uses the E1.A form factor and stands out with its modular design. This innovative design separates the controller and NAND memory.

Samsung stated that this structure improves heat dissipation, extends the product’s lifespan, and simplifies upgrades or replacements for users. While the product is not yet available directly to end users, it is stated that this modular approach may expand to other markets in the future.

The PM9E1 M.2 2242 model, which caters to a broader user base, is offered as an OEM SSD. This drive, featuring an M.2 2242 form factor, is notable for being one of the few drives that includes DRAM.

According to Samsung, the drive supports PCIe 5.0 and is powered by a Presto SSD controller and V8 TLC V-NAND technology. The PM9E1 M.2 2242 reaches read speeds of 14.8 GB/s and write speeds of 13.4 GB/s.

The drive offers capacities up to 4 TB with a double-sided design. With components positioned on both sides of the PCB, this double-sided design may pose a slight cooling challenge. However, the model is entering the market as an attractive option for portable gaming devices like the Steam Deck, offering high performance and ample storage.
